Liars, Xiu Xiu and More 'Enjoy' Björk on Stereogum Tribute Release

BjorkPost -- which was Björk's third album -- is arguably her most cohesive to date. Classic songs like "Army of Me," "Hyperballad," "Isobel" and "Possibly Maybe" offer a wide variety of sounds, textures and the Icelandic songstress' trademark voice. When you hear a Björk track, it's unmistakably hers, but let's see what happens when bands like Dirty Projectors and Pattern Is Movement get a hold of them on Stereogum's Enjoyed: A Tribute to Post. For the 11-song tribute to Björk's Post, recruiting the likes of Liars, Xiu Xiu, Atlas Sound and more indie luminaries to salute the singer. Here's what Björk had to say about Post in a recent interview with Stereogum:

"[I thought at the time] that I needed to be musically promiscuous and have almost every song a different mood/style, and so on. The picture on the cover is of me at Piccadilly Circus (Times Square of London). I'm too excited, too many things going on ('Bright Lights Big City' kind of thing), and I'm eager to consume. So my musical heart was scattered at the time and I wanted the album to show that."

Stereogum -- a taste-making Web site that was described by Forbes as "MTV News meets 'The Daily Show' " -- has ventured into compilation territory. It all started with 2006's Team9 vs. Stereogum, MySplice 2.0: 2007 Mashed Up. That compilation featured 10 great indie tracks remixed in "versus" form (Feist vs. New Young Pony Club, Bloc Party vs. The Cure, etc.). Next came OKX: A Tribute to OK Computer. Another impressive batch of artists covered the seminal album; you could even find the much-celebrated Vampire Weekend tackling "Exit Music (for a Film)." And finally, there was Drive XV: A Tribute to R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People. Noted pop bands like Rogue Wave and Shout Out Louds got in on that game.

(Each tribute is still available as a download or stream on the Stereogum Web site.)
