From Mexico City comes this five-piece indie act that will restore your faith in glorious guitar rock that isn't a 1990s reunion band. Chikita Violenta's initial signposts are the Lilys and Broken Social Scene. In fact, BSS producer Dave Newfeld -- along with band members Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff and Kevin Drew -- had their mits on the the group's latest batch of recordings, The Stars and Sons Sessions. You can hear vocal additions from the BSS boys on "Laydown."

According to a recent press release, the new video for "Laydown" took "thrity-six years to make." It also "combines 8mm footage from 1972 (that Andrés "Güero" found in his grandma's closet) with present day footage, using most of the same actors from the past in the present -- all singing and dancing to the song." That's some grainy footage guys.
