Band of the Week: King Khan and the Shrines

king_khan_2.jpgForget Gnarls Barkley and BBQ Show, King Khan is coming your way with his ensemble The Shrines. The last time we gushed over this band we offered "Welfare Bread," a healthy dose of soul that channels British Invasion pop bands getting slammed up against The Stooges. You can expect more amazing tunes on Khan's latest release, The Supreme Genius of King Khan and the Shrines, out now through Vice.

Khan wants his audiences to experience more than just a raucous live act. "I didn't just want the audience to have an aural orgasm... I wanted an EYEGASM too," states Khan in a press release. Catch the ten-piece group on their North American tour this summer, including this Thursday at the Echo.
