Brian Jonestown Massacre Gig ends in Backstage Smackdown

bjm.jpgA Brian Jonestown Massacre gig in London ended in chaos last night when the band got into a fight with each other backstage. According to the NME, Police were called to end the dispute, which, originated with drunken behavior from the band's guitarist Frankie Emerson.

Emerson "appeared drunk on stage," states the NME, and eventually broke a microphone during the set. Anton Newcombe and the band left the stage before the encore, but Emerson stayed -- rambling into the microphone, "Testing, one two, one two." Bad idea. Band member Joel Gion then attempted to alleviate the situation by saying goodnight to the crowd, but Emerson continued: "Don't shut front of house man, you fucker." That's drunk-speak for 'I'm not done babbling just yet.'

The rest of the group returned to play its final song after leaving the stage to a round of applause, but it was after the encore when the fight broke out backstage and the Police were called in. Luckily for the band, no arrests were made, and they'll continue tonight at Dour Festival.
